For those of you that don’t know, port forwarding has to be done to host web servers, game servers, voice servers or to just play a game online. To do this you have to know your router’s default gateway which is around 192.168.*.* . To find the gateway you have to open up the command prompt (cmd.exe) and once you have the command prompt open you would type the following command “ipconfig/all” or just “ipconfig”. Then scroll down the list until you find default gateway. Once you have your default gateway you will also need to know your computers IP Address which is NOT 72.*.* it is around the same as the gateway, 192.168.*.* .

Once you find that you will have to access your routers gateway by going into an internet browser such as Firefox and type in http:// 192.168.*.* without the asterisk marks and the space. Then it may ask you to log in and by default depending on the router the user name and pass word could be admin, admin, admin password, or password, password. If you don’t know it simply google your router, followed by default password and usernames. Then go to Virtual Servers or it may be known as Port forwarding or range forwarding again it depends. Once you go there you will have an option to enable it and it will ask you for the application name which can be anything doesn’t necessarily need to be the actual application.

Then you can type in the port and the range and your ip address then select Save Changes. That’s basically it and the video guide may help too.

I am writing this article because RacoonsCorner’s new author Gabe over at Gabe’s Blog gave me the idea for installing a plug in called WPTouch. What WPTouch is doing for RacoonsCorner is allowing people who have iPhones / iTouches / Blackberrys or any other type of phone a nice sleek look and feel of the site.

All the best,

Racoon

YouTube recently came out with a new feature titled “Feather”. The main purpose of the feather project is to have less latency when watching YouTube videos. YouTube says on their page “The “Feather” project is intended to serve YouTube video watch pages with the lowest latency possible.” Of course I opted into this beta or else I probably would not be writing this post and I found it interesting.

Basically what it does to provide less latency and a faster video load time is provide the watch page with less images. It also uses advanced web techniques to better serve this purpose. Of course YouTube stated that it is a work in progress and it will not work for all videos right now.
